Fantasian‘s soundtrack composed by another veteran in Final Fantasy franchise, Nobuo Uematsu. ![]() Each world’s dioramas have been crafted by veterans of a special effects industry, who have worked on projects like the Godzilla films, Attack on Titan, and Ultraman. The studio well-known for other RPG titles such as: Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, and The Last Story. The new RPG is the latest game from Sakaguchi’s studio Mistwalker, founded in 2004. Coincidentally, it was the same birthday as FF6, which inspired me to create this. Today, Fantasian releases on Apple Arcade, as long as you have an iOS device: iPhone, iPad, Apple TV. The game originally release in Japan on April 1, 2021, the same day Final Fantasy VI released in Japan and seems like Sakaguchi planned it that way too. It feels a bit pathetic and sleazy, especially as they present that image of being the good/honest tech company (compared to Google/Microsoft).Fantasian is a new role-playing game (RPG) from Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi. Being dominant in so many areas and they act this insecure in presentations that are mostly watched by Apple fans anyways. And they do that as a trillion dollar company, not the Apple of the 90s and early 00s where it can be excused as the aspirations of the underdog. It's as if they insist on winning on a technicality just to make themselves look better. They always do this in their presentation (so it's not exactly new, just because they do it for gaming and IAPs) where they pick very specific comparisons while leaving out important context which is really childish. ![]() And I say that as somebody who'd writing this on macOS. This combination of not caring about gaming, not understanding it in the first place, and being willing to profit from it while hiding the dirty secret by using very specific terms really makes me detest their approach to gaming as a topic in general. And they go out of their way to obfuscate that most of the IAP money is from that by using the marginally bigger "App Store" bucket for their numbers, never addressing where most of their revenue/profit comes from. They present this family friendly public persona but are willing to ruthlessly profit from psychologically abusive systems. App Store = 98% Game Store of 10% whales. Excludes ads is ‘IAP rev” and 98% of that is from 10% of users in games.). Here's a summary of a comment I wrote about it (with references) that goes into more detail:ĩ8% of IAP revenue is from games and 10% of iOS users generate 70% of App Store revenue via games (‘App Store rev’ includes Ads. They like to present iOS as this platform for developers to be profitable but it's mostly loot boxes. But otherwise they don't like to talk about gaming because most of their iOS App Store revenue is from gaming, and especially from games with predatory loot boxes. They have Apple Arcade but it seems to be more like just another point in their checklist of iOS services in those subscription bundles they have. The irritating part about all of this is just how uninterested Apple seems to be when it comes to gaming and how they deal with the topic. People shit on Apple Arcade for not having any exclusive games to draw people to the service, but then these threads are always full of comments asking for the game to get off the service.
